Trance X3 or Fuel EX 6?!

Hello everyone, new member here.
I've been riding a Trek 4300 for the past 10 years and just recently found a love for trail riding. I love my current bike but it just doesn't handle the singletrack all that well. I've been going to my LBSs the past couple of weeks and checking out all the different bikes and it's really starting to give me a headache.
I'm pretty sure I want a FS bike as I still have my 4300 to boot around the city. The 2 I've liked are the Giant Trance X3 and the Trek Fuel EX 6. They both retail for $2100. Another store also has a 2009 Specialized XC Comp for $1300. It seems like a great price but I worry that the components will reflect it.
My question would be, as a trail noob, which of these bikes would best meet my needs?
Thanks for all the help.

My baby. I've had it for 5 days, rode it everyday, and love it. I cut about 4 minutes off my previous best 25 minute lap time on a local trail the second time I rode it. It inspires confidence and makes you push yourself. That being said, I have laid myself out twice already because I pushed it a bit too hard.

Sweet looking ride!

Try to dial it back a bit though, it sucks getting broken and having to sit out 12+ weeks while healing :(
