Hi,

I'm going to Colorado to do some biking for my first time. I'll arrive at Denver Int'l airport September 1st in the evening.

My plan right now is to drive directly to Boulder and spend five nights there, but I'm open to other suggestions. Boulder might be a bit pricy?

I'm looking for areas with nice XC- tails where I can get a few miles. Not to interested in very technical trails.

Suggestions on where to stay, either in Boulder or other places are appreciated.

If you're looking for nice singletrack in Colorado, Boulder is not your best bet. But if you're set on Boulder for other reasons, here's a couple good fairly non-technical singletrack options (both have good descriptions here on singletracks):

Boulder is no must. I have to get back to the airport on Wednesday evening, that's why I'd like to stay pretty close to Denver. An hour or two is no problem, though. The most important thing would be the possibility to rent a decent bike, not a "tourist bike"

Arguably Denver is closer to Denver than Boulder is And there are exponentially more trails.

Seriously though, the airport is way out to the east of town and Boulder is close to neither the best riding nor the airport.

Take a look at staying in Dillon/Silverthorne. It's 1 hour, 45 minutes from the Denver airport according to Google Maps and you'll be close to Keystone and Breckenridge ski resorts where you can rent any type of bike you could possibly imagine. Also, since there are a ton of vacation rentals in Dillon/Silverthorne you should be able to get a good deal this time of year.

As far as trails, you can take your pick! From lift serviced to epic backcountry rides, you'll be near it all. I don't know about short rides in the area but I'm sure some of the locals here can fill you in. Any trail can be short - you just have to turn around before you go too far.

I love staying in Boulder myself... once you're there you don't need to get back in your car. Everything is very walkable and bikeable. Beyond the two trails skibum mentioned, there's also Valmont Bike Park, Marshall Mesa, and Heil Ranch nearby.

boulder will do just fine. just drive a few miles north to the town of lyons and stop into redstone cyclery for trail maps to picture rock, nelson loop, antelope. I used to live there and these are some really fun trails. Beautiful single track. I f you decide to get a little technical try hall ranch.

Golden area would be your best bet Apex ,windy saddle ,white ranch ,green mountain ,hogback / Dakota ridge .up a bit further lair o bear ,aldefers 3 sisters ,elk meadow ,deer creek is not to far.
