My Sidis are awesome. Cheap shoes aren't good and good shoes aren't cheap(proverb?). Feet, seat, grips are where you touch the bike and the feet transfer all the power so shoes make a differance and they MUST be clip ins. No clip ins? Flipflops are good enough. Later,

It depends on what kind off shoe you want. Do you want stiff shoes with no flex or some flex? I like my Lake shoes with the vibram sole which are a little on the heavy side but weight is not a factor for me.

Do you eat a lot of rich foods? Because Gout would not feel comfortable in any show. :D I've been riding on a pair of Pearl Izumi Enduro II (i think that's the name of them). The have two velcro straps and a rachet style strap at the top. They've been pretty good for me, on both short and long rides. I'm assuming you are riding clipless.

Where do your feet hurt? Just when you are riding or long after you stop? Numbness?

Gout from rich foods? My research says it's from too much alcohol. Hard liquor more than beer or wine. Have a steak, shrimp coctail, cheese cake and Crown Royal. That usually works for me. Later,

My feet bug me too lately,I'm pretty sure I got planter facciitis, little tears in the tendons that run along the bottom of the foot, has seemed to get a little better if I watch how I walk and stuff. From what I read about it,it's basically a sports injery, from turning, pivoting and cutting back and forth.I've also had gout and watching what you eat really helps with that, likw fatbilly says, that stuff will make gout misserable....

I'm wearing specialized. I like shoes I can wear for both cross country and downhill. My feet hurt mainly across the bottom of my sole from the pedal pressure--a numb burning pain. I'm sure it's from the miles I've put in. I used to compete on a national and world class level on the velodrome and criteriums. Although that's been a while ago, the damage is done. I suppose it could be gout. Isn't that a form of arthritis? I also broke my ankle last fall and the cast was putting pressure on the bottom of the front of my foot. As a result, my foot hurts when I walk too! Maybe Fat Billy has something--I should get a beer

Gout is not a form of arthritis, it comes from high levels of uric acid which can be found a lot in alcohol and beef. It is more common in men than in women statistically...
Are you riding out of the saddle a lot? what kinda pedals are you pushing right now? One reason I can't do eggbeaters is because I feel to much pressure, I love using candys and probably going to get some mallets for this year...

When I first got my shoes I had foot pain and numbness. I read an article about using arch supporting insoles. The pain in my feet quit once my shoes broke in a little and I never tried it. It might be worth a try though.
