Man that sucks as does all bike breakage. Looks like inner hub shaft failed. Never had that happen but the only cure is to rub your neck and write a check. Hope you get better shipping service. I guess DH/FR bikes do take a beating. :? Later,

Geez Chillipepper! Quit pedalling so dang hard!!

Take it to the LBS, they may be able to replace just the freehub, and not the entire hub. Good luck!

ChiliPepper wrote:Please excuse my ignorance, but does the freehub come with the spindle axle inside the hub body. I am not familiar with building these type hubs. I am used to the older ones back in the day. Never had any issues with a hub going bad with these freehubs today. Had to replace or change out a few cassettes though.

Honestly I'm not really sure. I know some hubs can be dissassembled and rebuilt, new axles, freehubs, etc. Only hubs I've ever tore into myself are my American Classics...every manufacturer has slightly different designs. What kind of hub is it? Some googleing will probably get you the answers you need.

It looks like the axle itself broke, not the freehub. I'd imagine you can get a new axle...but I'm not sure.

Hey Chilly...Pull the cassette off the body and see if the axle is stuck in there..Now what hub is that? More than likely you can swap out the axle with little trouble...It looks like a clean break. So it will be a matter of which brand you have and following the instructions on changing it up. If it is sealed bearings then your pressing out the axle.

Over time I have snapped more than one axle like that.
