Now that I have ordered mine, I can pass this along:

JensonUSA is blowing out leftover 2009 Easton XC One wheelsets for $299. That's $500 off of retail, folks.

In my case, I'll be shaving 715 grams of rotating weight off of my bike, at a price of $0.42 per gram!
(some weight weenie friends of mine use $1.00 per gram as a guide in their shopping)

I can't wait to get them and stuff some 2.2" Geax AKA's on them, which I also want to check out. (and shave another 410 grams off of the rotating weight as compared to my current Velociraptors)

The AKA's run about $40 each, so that's another $0.20 per gram.

Okay, I didn't mean to turn this into a discussion of weight vs price, but since it ended up there:
Spending $379 to lose 1,125 grams at $0.34 per gram is a steal in my book.

Put another way, new wheels + new tires - True Goo sealant = approximately 3 pounds of rotating weight off of my current setup!

3lbs is MASSIVE! What is your current set up?

EDIT: 1,125g is closer to 2.5lbs actually, but still, that's a TON of weight to be removing from your wheels!! You're going to feel like superman going uphill.

Heavy

I have WTB Dual Duty FR wheels with crappy Shimano M475 hubs. (2,300 grams total for the wheelset)
My tires are WTB Velociraptor Comp. (795 grams each)

To be fair, I have ridden two seasons, including the 24 Hours of Moab race with zero flats and no need for truing.

I have been wheel shopping this whole off season and I can not make my mind up. I was looking at these Easton's and I am worried because I am a Clydesdale. With gear I may be close to 225-230 (losing as we speak) but I want some strong wheels, I ride in the Appalachians and there are plenty of drops into rock gardens and root clusters so with my weight, trail conditions, and my budget I am afraid of buying a weak wheelset.

Any suggestions? I was also considering Fulcrum Red metal 5's, and Mavic Crosstrail's...HELP!

I'm not to familier with the Fulcrums but i would definitely recommend the Mavic Crosstrails. I have them on my bike (upgraded from Bontrager Duster) and they are awesome so far and they look great. I'm about 230lbs with no problems.

Thanks for the reply man...I am leaning more and more towards the Mavics, I have had good luck with that brand on my roadie as well.

I have been riding a set of the 2008 Easton XC One wheels on my Stumpjumper FSR S-Works and they work fine. When I first started riding on them I was 240+ with gear and noticed some rear wheel flex but that later turned out to be a loose hub which once fixed hasn't given me any issues since. The bearings are pre-loaded cartridge style which causes them to feel like a very nice set of Enduro Ceramics and makes the rolling resistance go way down. I have done some serious trail riding on these and after a year they are still true and none of the spokes are loose. I will convert them to tubeless with some Stan's rim strips as soon as I burn up my nice set of 2.25 Schwalbe Nobby Nic Triple Evo tires. I am a heavy guy and fit at the upper end of the Clydesdale class as I do body building but still manage to get at least 45 miles of serious XC/Trail riding with 4,500 ft of climbing in each week.

Did the XC70's arrive.

I just received a new set of Crossmax SX to give a whirl on...These are pretty stiff and strong so far..I also like the improved feel on the cassette body.....The new ST's share the same cassette as well...both wheels would be an excellent upgrade specially for those who love the rocks...

The new Havoc and Havens are also great sets of wheels that don't weight too much..They can also take a big beating!
