My First MTB Build

Postby Smokez87 » Thu Jul 12, 2012 3:22 am

Hi guys,

recently I started a mountain bike build. This is my first mountain bike build and I have never built one from the frame up before.

I created a blog to document and share my experiences during the build. Basically to learn from other cyclist around the world, on how and what should be done correctly. Every single part of the build is documented, even problems and solutions.

However the build is still on going, and would love to hear what you guys think about it.

Hope to hear from you guys soon.

Cheers!

Remember, Lefty loosy, righty tighty except for the pedal on the crank with no chain rings. Later,
Fat Billy sponsored by: Any all you can eat buffett, Michelin, Panaracer, Shimano, Serotta Bicycles, Sidi shoes, Bell Helmets, Monkey light Handlebars, Camel Back products. Wait a minute I give them money and all they give me is high prices. Never mind! Too wet to ride? Try Planking to help keep muscle tone.

Good luck. I did this a few months back. Prepare for headaches and many trips to the bike shop for help.

PS: Your handlebar is upside down (unless that's what you're going for...):

Well I never knew they were upside down. Cant believe no one noticed it until now. LOL

The bike shop is helpful but, I really don't like those forks on my frame at the moment it was more of an impulse buy to start riding. However, my cranks are not here yet so I can't do anything until they get here. I still have to get new tubes too because I got the wrong ones.

Well I guess while learning, I'm sure to make many mistakes.

I am still waiting for an email from the bike shop though, to see if I could exchange it for something else. Worst case scenario its going on one of the local forums for sale, like the Marzocchi ones I had on earlier.

Just updated my blog.
Thana's DIY MTB build

Got the cranks and tools in the mail today from ChainReactionCycles.

Was pretty straight forward to fix up.

Realized I couldn't finish the wheels because I didn't have the bolts for the rotors.

Hi guys,

just updated my blog on my build.

The build is now complete.

I would like to thank everyone for your help.

The blog, will not be shutting down. I will still continue posting on it, with my experience on my new ride (commuting, problems with the bike, adventuring, maintenance)
